Peace club is the main strategy of the movement. In partnerships with schools, colleges and also localities Peace Channel organizes groups of children and youth in neighborhood classes and localities into Peace clubs. For every 20-30 interested members from the neighborhood classes or localities there can be a Peace Club. Once the club is formed comprising of about 15-20 interested members leaders of the group are elected by consensus. Peace club regularly meet as per a program schedule as may be agreed mutually and with concerned authority and engaged themselves in joyful learning activities and slowly learn to observe a 7-Step Peace Celebration processes of 1 hour duration every time they meet and take local peace actions based on issues that concerns them most. Once a Peace club is fully formed and regular an official induction function is organized on an appointed date in the school/college assembly. Members are given scarf and other materials on this day as marked of their becoming active members.

There are different categories of Peace clubs. There are mainly three; Children Peace Club; Youth/College Peace Club and Locality Peace Club. Children Peace Club which is formed only in schools may have two sub-categories; Junior for Club members belonging to Classes V to VII and Senior Club for members belonging to Classes VIII to XI. Locality Peace Clubs are formed mostly by members of Institutional based Peace clubs with age ranging between 6 and18 from neighborhoods families.

Peace club is a space where children are given an experience of individual and social peace through behavioral and attitudinal transformation. 7-Step processes involve prayers from scriptures, dedication, meditation, and learning of human rights and life-skills education following participatory learning processes. Since, time is always challenging in school hours and teachers often overburdened with curriculum activities Locality Peace club provides an extended space for children in their relax times in their own locality. Another reason for having 4 categories in schools, college and locality is also to provide at least 3-6 years of consistent members in the club for continuous learning

The purpose of bringing the youths together and forming them into clubs is to provide them with an opportunity and the platform to excel in various fields. They are encouraged to be the lovers, promoters and builders of peace in their everyday life. The students are imbibed with the qualities to be able and efficient leaders and act as a responsible citizen, through the different trainings and seminars conducted on the different topics or subject.

The membership to the peace channel clubs made through registration with a contribution of ten rupees (Rs10). The membership fee collected will be the base fund of the club. There is no monthly or yearly subscription fee towards the membership. The members may contribute cash/kind donations to the club on their free will for the betterment of their respective clubs/club members. The membership will be lifetime. Any member may opt out of the organization as and when he pleases. Individual or group memberships may be cancelled if the individual or the group is found to have acted against spirit and values of the organization.

The Club meetings are called peace celebrations. It is recommended that the club meet at least twice in a month. The peace celebration may progress in the format provided by the Peace Channel. The groups are encouraged to include activities or programmes according to the needs and nature.

Before joining the Peace Channel Movement, the members are officially inducted through a short programme. The programme comprises of an invocation prayer, sharing by the coordinator of Peace Channel, special numbers from the members, few words from the chief guest, peace pledge followed by the handing over of the uniform to the members.


After the pledge taking ceremony, the members are handed with the Peace Channel uniform. The uniform consists of a badge, scarf and woggle with the logo of the movement printed on it. Pledge taking ceremony is the moment when the members take the vow to be true peace activist, and promote it to their best ability. The members are now official members and they renew their vow every month. They are expected to live to the motto of the movement, i.e., ‘Be a Channel of Peace’. They will be the channels in spreading the universal message of peace, love and freedom. Their non-violent life style will reflect the dream and aim of the Movement. They promise to be an
inspiration to others, and be the role model for others to follow. With the belief in one Supreme Being, every
individual is accepted as family.

When a club is formed the members elect their leaders. They propose the names of any individual whom they think is an able leader and can lead them, and the ones to win the majority support is elected for the different posts, such as President, General Secretary and treasurer. The leaders will represent the club members in the different district and state level programs.

The leaders will represent their club members for the different district and state level programme. They will be trained on different areas and the knowledge gained will be shared with the other club members. The leaders need to identify every individual member in their club, and he/she will help them to grow in the right direction with the right values. He/she will act as the role model for the other members to see and follow.

Every Peace club in the educational institution appoints a teacher coordinator, who will be responsible for the activities in the club. He/she will coordinate the various programs conducted in the institution, and will act as the mediator between the school authority and the Movement. The coordinator will identify all peace club members of his/her institution and special interest will be given to those students who require it. The coordinator will assist the club members in carrying out the various activities like the peace celebration, outreach programs, cleanliness drive etc. He/she will monitor the growth and development of the members and encourage, as well as teach them to be model students in the school in particular and responsible citizens in general.

The animators are the basic reference point to any club be it an institutional club or a locality peace club. They are the one who initiates the formation of the clubs and gives them the basic framework for functioning. Thereafter, the animators oversee a few peace celebrations (Peace Club meetings) and guides the group into working as a standard group. Through informative capacity building sessions, the animators help the members to gain valuable knowledge on peace and other relevant issues. The animators will also be the link between the movement and the clubs

Identify potential schools and colleges partners in a district Make rapport with school/college authority through personal visits and sharing Peace channel presentation skit If interested, identify potential teachers-in-charge for Peace clubs with the help of School /college authority In consultations with school teachers and head prepare an agreed activity schedule for Peace clubs

Get all in a circle. Announce election for leaders; President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Start with the election for the post of President. Give small card size piece of paper each member and ask them to write their own name on the top of the paper and write one name for the post of the president from among the club members. Announce that one can also nominate one self. In this case, one has to write one’s name twice on the paper; one on the top and one in the middle of the paper. Tell members that this is a secret ballot system. One must write the names without letting others know. Once two names written ask members to fold the paper immediately and pass on to the facilitator. Once all the papers are collected the facilitator announces the result. First announce number candidates proposed for the post of president and then which candidate scored how many votes.

There are different possibilities. If the result shows only one candidate proposed with 100% votes in his/her favour you are lucky. We have a clean consensus vote! Members often nominate different candidates numbering more than 2 or 3 persons. The next step is very hard and challenging as it requires each to face the truth on the face. Facilitator will announce who voted for who and ask each why s/he thought his/her candidate for the said post was a better choice. Everyone will be give time to speak about one’s candidate and also opportunity to listen to why other candidate is also strong candidate. This is a time consuming process but end result will be a consensus candidate when all members will come down to a consensus candidate without further arguments. Role of facilitator is very crucial as s/he has to facilitate the discussion to a conclusive end that satisfies all concerns.

Once the election of president is announced ask members who among other nominees of the post of president may be elected for the post of Vice President. Get a consensus on this and announce. Similarly, elect Secretary and Treasurer also by consensus building. Election of all the post may require 2 or 3 meetings. Take time to do so as this is the way we build foundation for peace. No compromise while laying this foundation. It is also important that in all Peace club activities where ever any decision is being made ensure that there is consensus in the group at all times. Never impose a decision from your side how ever good they may be as far as you can. The more club members are take their own decisions on all club members the more they will feel belong to it as their own. And the sooner they can run on their own and you can also withdraw.
